Mayor Brian K. Snedecor
November 2020 Holiday Message
I would like to wish you a Happy and Blessed Thanksgiving and hope you are able to enjoy time with your family, either in person or virtually. This year has been challenging for everyone and now more than ever, as a nation, we need positives. As a city, we want to thank all our essential workers for their dedication and service to our community. I ask that you take the time we are in very seriously and make decisions as you see fit for your family. Please try to abide by the governor’s orders (Lake County is in Red).
On a side note, the tree lighting that was scheduled for Saturday (11/28) will not be taking place at this time. Please continue to check our city’s website, as well as the Hobart Events Facebook page, for future events.
And of course, good luck to our Brickies at state! Go Brickies!
Hobart, Something for Everyone
The diverse opportunities available are a great reason to live in or visit the City of Hobart.
While Hobart has always maintained its small town charm, it also has the large city amenities: the US 30 retail corridor, historical downtown, beautiful parks, state-of-the-art medical facilities, and a variety of dining choices - from thriving locally owned establishments to popular restaurant chains.
From lakeside bungalows and quaint established neighborhoods to new construction, people can enjoy the unique and affordable housing choices available. Living in Hobart, residents can expect top-rated schools, great parks, and a variety of quality of life events.
The business community has embraced the Northwind Crossings business park by relocating the headquarters of businesses to or expanding their existing business within the area. Our Redevelopment Commission has completed the downtown plan and is working toward implantation. The downtown lakefront district designation is helping with businesses through facade grants, riverside liquor license applications, and a district branding campaign.
Our strong community organizations provide events that include spaghetti dinners, chili suppers, dam duck races, concerts in the park, and mud volleyball tournaments that raise funds for their organizations and the betterment of the city. These events are a perfect time to visit with old neighborhood friends and take pride in the community.
Seniors can utilize the Maria Reiner Senior Center, which provides a warm and inviting social environment, health and wellness programs, and educational classes. The Hobart YMCA strengthens our community through well-being, fitness, family time, and sports and play for people of all ages.
In the past few years, the city has focused on special events to highlight what the city has to offer: movies in the park, the summer market in Festival Park on Thursday evenings, and the annual four-day Lakefront Festival.
Whether you want a city for living, working, or enjoyment opportunities, Hobart truly has something to offer everyone.
