Communication to Residents via Call and/or Email:

This is Mayor Brian Snedecor along with our City Engineer Phil Gralik,

I wanted to quickly bring you up to date on where we are at with construction as to the 3rd Street Bridge. This project, as much as people seem to think it has taken an enormous amount of time, is actually two months ahead of schedule. Anytime you are working on a bridge of this magnitude it does take many months due to utility reconstruction and relocation as well as the construction itself of the bridge.

Now, I also want to talk about the closure of the Old Ridge Road Bridge. I am going to have the engineer talk a little bit about why there was a need to close that prior to the opening of the 3rd Street Bridge, which we hope will open the week after Labor Day.

City Engineer Phil Gralik: The Deep River Outfall Project began in 2016 and is 80% funded by a federal grant. The construction project bid in October 2019 and was to start in February of this year. However, due to the 3rd Street Bridge Project, INDOT and Grimmer Construction (INDOT’s contractor) agreed to delay the start until August 24th. Any start date after that left the chance that Old Ridge Road, Front Street and Main Street could have to be closed all winter. While we are completing the 3rd Street Bridge ahead of schedule, as the mayor said it will not open until the week of Labor Day, meaning we all have to endure a couple weeks of extreme detours to ensure Old Ridge, Front and Main are paved before winter.

Mayor: We appreciate your patience. As I have always said, I will apologize for inconvenience, I will not apologize for progress in order to make this community a better place to live and work.

Thank you.
