UPDATE Urgent Notice

UPDATE

6/6/2018 2:30 pm

We have been informed by Rieth-Riley, the Indiana Department of Transportation contractor for the State Road 51 resurfacing project, that on or after 5:00 am Friday, June 8th they will begin their work through downtown Hobart. This will require a closure to northbound traffic on State Route 51 from Cleveland Avenue at North Hobart Road to 3rd Street and Linda Street and then from 3rd Street and Main Street through to 10th Street at Lincoln Street. Southbound traffic on State Route 51 will be allowed to continue throughout the project length. The closure on Lincoln Street from 8th Street to 10th Street may remain in place for the first week of the project. While paving southbound lanes, the northbound lane will be used for southbound traffic so please pay extra attention while driving in this area.

This work will require intermittent closures of the cross streets to allow the paving train to pass. These closures of cross streets may be up to 4 hours in duration while the asphalt mix cools. The moving paving operation will be under the control of flaggers so pay careful attention and follow their instructions. Please remember that the safety of workers and other motorists is very important.

Downtown Hobart will be accessible from the south by driving north on Wisconsin Street to 3rd Street or via State Route 130 to 37th Avenue and then south on either Wisconsin Street or North Lake Park Road then via Old Ridge Road.

Rieth-Riley anticipates the closure will last approximately 3 weeks.

Thank you for your patience during this project.

The City of Hobart just received notice from the Indiana Department of Transportation. They will be closing SR51/Grand Blvd just north of US-30 in Hobart for reconstruction starting on May 29th. The closure is expected to take two weeks and is weather dependent. Official State detour shall be US-30 to I-65 NB to 80/94 EB to SR 51 SB. During the closure there will be no access between US-30 and 73rd Avenue on SR 51 as the roadway will be removed.

On Wednesday, May 9, 2018 Rieth-Riley will have a lane restriction to repair a manhole on eastbound East 10th Street in front of Joan Martin School at 6:30 AM.  The entrances to the school should not be affected.
Also, Lake Street at East 10th Street will be closed by 6:30 AM to repair a manhole and pipe.  Rieth-Riley has instructed TCS to place detour signs at East 7th Street to direct the traffic to Water Street. Depending on repair time, the detour may stay up overnight.

On Tuesday, May 8, 2018 Rieth-Riley will be milling the shoulders starting at East Cleveland Avenue and North Hobart Road going north to Deep River just south of Central Avenue.  They will be flagging one way traffic as they proceed North.

5/4/2018 3:30 pm

On Monday, May 7, 2018 Rieth-Riley will resume work by milling 1.5” on the shoulders and approaches on State Route 51.  They will start just south of Central Avenue going south to U.S. Route 6, then start south of U.S. Route 6 to U.S. Route 130. They hope to have this work concluded by Wednesday, May 9, 2018 weather permitting.

They will work on the shoulders of the road and hope that they will not need to close a lane at a time of traffic, but it is a possibility.

5/2/2018 2:30 pm

On Thursday, May 3, 2018 Rieth-Riley will start the milling and paving operation starting at U.S. Route 6 going north to just south of Central Avenue.  Traffic will be restricted under a flagging operation beginning at 5:00 AM and ending around 5:00 PM.   This is weather dependent.  If they are rained out tomorrow, they will be back onsite Friday to finish.

The City of Hobart has been advised as of May 2, 2018 at 12:30 pm by Rieth-Riley, INDOT’s contractor for the state route resurfacing project, that they will be working from Cleveland Avenue North to U.S. Route 6 with intermittent lane closures on State Route 51.  They have suggested that the motoring public avoid the intersection of U.S. Route 6 and State Route 51 until after 6:00 pm Wednesday, May 2, 2018.  Local traffic will be able to pass through the construction area under the guidance of contractor employees.
