Police Department

A Message From the Chief of Police

Dear Residents and Business Owners,

Welcome to the Hobart Police Department’s new website. We are taking a new approach to how we serve the public. Rather than a department run by a large administrative staff, we have streamlined our approach for efficiency and to better serve the community. We have reduced bureaucracy in an attempt to work smarter with our resources while putting more officers in the field. To meet the organizational needs, we will involve everyone in more of a team approach and give everyone a role in our mission.

Our mission statement is "to always be vigilant in our efforts to preserve the peace and dignity of our community, while remaining mindful of the impact that our actions have on maintaining and enhancing the quality of life for the residents we serve." But what does this mean? Our goal should always be to maintain the quality of life for our residents, businesses, and visitors to Hobart. If we are not assertive enough in preserving the peace and dignity, we diminish the way of life. However, if we are too militant in our approach, we can also do more harm than good. Our actions, as police officers, have a greater impact on the community we serve than any other agency or department in the city. With the vested authority, we must ensure that our service is always in the best interest of the community.

With this mission in mind and our streamlined approach for efficiency, we will get there through our new vision of being "united in a spirit of teamwork, the Hobart Police Department will be an open, friendly, and community-minded organization devoted to quality public service, and dedicated to live by the values of genuinely caring for the safety and well-being of the public." Our vision is something we have to live by every day, and it is the only way to better serve the community.

It is an honor and a privilege to be your chief of police, and I am proud of my fellow police officers and civilians that make up the Hobart Police Department. We look forward to providing the best possible service to our community. We encourage you to reach out to us with your comments, questions, and any concerns.

Respectfully, Garrett Ciszewski

Chief of Police
